Job Description : The Role Based in a Bioversity’s office in Nepal, the incumbent will work with partners and stakeholders at the global, national and local levels in implementing Bioversity’s strategy and research agenda in crop genetic diversity and participatory crop improvement. Under the supervision of the Principal Scientist of the Genetic Diversity, Production and Resilience Team, the incumbent will: • Provide scientific leadership on crop genetic resources and participatory crop improvement and grassroots breeding issues pertaining to the use and conservation of agricultural biodiversity, particularly in the context of developing countries; • Contribute to the development of Bioversity’s scientific work on crop genetic diversity in the field and on farm; • Identify strategic options and pathways that lead to the incorporation of crop biodiversity into development agendas in agriculture and the environment; • Identify funding priorities and lead the development of proposals and concept notes for the generation of financial and human resources to support the research agenda; • Collaborate across initiatives to incorporate tools, frameworks, indicators and approaches to strengthen the overall research portfolio at Bioversity; • Engage with key stakeholders to establish and maintain strategic partnerships with regional institutions, country government officials, international and local donors, international and local NGOs, universities and other resource institutions that work with Bioversity; • Manage and implement multi-country research projects; • Write scientific publications and other impact-oriented products from high quality research on crop biodiversity, production and resilience, and present at relevant scientific and policy fora; • Contribute to other Organizational and activities as and when required.
 
Minimum Qualification & Experience : Qualifications and competencies Essential qualifications and competencies: • Ph.D. in agricultural sciences, genetics, plant breeding, or related field. • Minimum of at least 5 years of progressively responsible international research experience in an area of crop genetic resources or genetics and plant breeding forfood security at the community and/or program levels, including in developing countries. • Experience with collaborating various stakeholders in community based management of agricultural biodiversity • Strong empirical and quantitative skills with statistical expertise and experience in design of participatory crop improvement experiments and analyses especially in low and middle income countries. • Demonstrated competency in managing research in a development context, including both people and financial resources, especially in the establishment and strengthening of collaborative research and development partnerships. • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to motivate, catalyze and promote engagement through negotiation and consensus building; a commitment to and demonstrated track record of working within multi-disciplinary teams and in multi-cultural environments. • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken. • Strong record of accomplishment in developing successful project proposals and raising funding for research. ? Motivated and resourceful, with a sustained record of achievement, innovation and strategic vision, demonstrated in research products and publications.
